Just a short note to let our customers know that we
escaped the floods of Brisbane January 2011.

As the flood water was rising the power company
turned off the power to our area as the local substation
was about to go under water.

We were watching the news and decided to come in
at midnight to remove our computers and files as a
precaution for the pending flood threat. Everything
that was easily moved, was removed by 6am that morning
as the flood water was rising rapidly and the top drive to
the property was about to go under and block our escape.

After that time access to the workshop was blocked
by the flood water for the next couple of days and the
water peaked at 200mm less than our floor level.

After the water receded it was full steam ahead to
have the engineering and machinery companies
operating as soon as possible. We have a large
generator that is capable of running the both
companies and this was used untill the power was
 restored after about a week.

We were lucky to have missed the flood water and
there was no damage to any machines at our shop.
Other people and companies in our area were not
as lucky and were flooded and have a huge task
 to rebuild.

At the time a major problem was the phone systems
in the area, as a lot of Telstra's equipment went under
water and had to be replaced.

We are now back to full production and would like to
thank our customers for your understanding and
patience in the time of the flood.

Following are photos of the flood water at our building.
The water was about 600mm higher at the height of the flood

About us

The Mendham group of companies commenced in 1948 with a small workshop at the family home of Alf Mendham Senior, in the Brisbane suburb of Yeronga. The original company was Mendham Engineering which is still working today in the engine reconditioning and the general engineering industry.

After 2 Years at this address they relocated to larger premises which were self built on an industrial site at nearby Moorooka. Over the years the Engineering workshop at Moorooka was extended several times to accommodate the growing company until that property was outgrown after 22 years.

In February 1972 the equipment was moved to a new workshop at 1776 Ipswich Road, Rocklea, in the heart of a large industrial area of the south west of Brisbane. This workshop was added to over the years until after 36 years this property was also outgrown.

The machinery in the Engineering company is updated periodically to maintain a high quality of equipment for our operation of engine reconditioning and general engineering.

In 1985 we entered the machinery sales field and we can now offer an ever expanding range of new and used engine reconditioning machines and equipment. We feel that our "hands on" experience in the trade qualifies us to give sound and helpful advice to anybody considering the purchase of machines or equipment. Mendham Machinery officially commenced in 1988 and has grown to be one of the largest Engine reconditioning equipment suppliers in Australia.

In December 2008 we moved next door to larger premises at 1800 Ipswich Road, Rocklea, where Mendham Engineering and Mendham Machinery are together in the same larger more modern building. This will allow Mendham Machinery to hold a larger range of equipment available for sale.
